I do not believe that the distinction in the clarity of the markings on the barrel date from them coming from a different time but from the process of marking. Truth be known about Enfield serial numbers is simply, the serial number was used more for production counting than any other reason. starting with a 1) indicates it was manufactured by ROF Maltby in Yorkshire, England. )*
